Website Research

What makes a good band website?

Other than the obvious things that a good website must have, such as being easy to navigate, there are essential points that bands must incorporate in their websites to make them a success. In my opinion the single most important feature is easy accessibility to their audio or music videos. If it was not easy for the audience to access these features it is likely they would not bother going on the website. The website should primarily promote the main product (the album) and secondly the additonal merchandise. Without knowing what type of music is on the album, they are unlikely to purchase the product.
A blog is a vital part of a website as it enables the band to connect to their audience enabling fans to track the band and feel in a way closer to their idols. A blog creates a platform that allows the audience to connect to the artist. This seems to be a essential feature as it lets the audience know when new songs are being released, what the tour dates are and when new albums are being recorded. This means that the audience is constantly aware of the band, instead of only being aware of the band on special occassions such as album release.
Another important feature is for the band’s name to stand out from the other fonts used. As a result the audience is constantly being reminded subconsciously who they are looking at, also the font should be unconventional, making it stand out above other band websites. It is also important there are clear links to the bands products and other merchandise such as t-shirts and posters, as this will help the band make more money.
Finally, I feel it is important that there is clear display of their upcoming tour and album release dates.
