We had 4 costumes to consider: the lead singers, the dancers, the leader of the horse and the person destroying the memories. I will start off with the lead singers costume; we were fairly decisive on the colour scheme for Ben’s costume. We stuck to a black and white theme for him, making sure he looked well dressed, as we wanted him to look attractive to our target audience. Having looking at the different styles that bands portray we were particularly impressed with the style of a new band called Hurts. Their style is very simple but timeless, and their style is one of the iconic features of the band. So we very quickly decided on a simple suit for Ben’s costume. We thought this would be appropriate as we are appealing to a more mature audience.
We felt the person who was leading the horse had to wear the same costume as the girl on the album cover. Also, we felt that she should not be portrayed sexually, but merely act as a contrast to the rest of the theme clothes. Instead of wearing a black and white costume, we felt that she would stand out better by wearing more colourful clothing, possibly neutral colours such as pale pinks or beige.
Finally, for the person destroying her memories, we decided she should wear bright colours portraying her strength, but we also chose feminine colors such as reds and purples.
I feel the most important costume is the dancers costume since theirs will add a sense of style to the video. Again we were influenced by Hurts - Wonderful Life.. The idea was that the dancers would wear predominately black clothes. Because of the song we had chosen we agreed the dancers should be dressed in a minimalistic style rather than in an evocative manner. We initially thought they should wear a plain black leotard with a tutu and concluded that the dancers would still be seen in a feminine and delicate and not be stereotyped into a sexual category. As regards shoes we felt ballet shoes would be most appropriate as they were best for dancing and did not to reinforce a sexual connotation.
